Today we got the news that we could get our cruising permit!! Our title people got back to us and were able to provide us with "running documents", which provide proof that we have registration filed, it's just still in process. This was enough to show to the marina office and we got a permit for 3 months - crisis averted!
We took a taxi to another local grocery store for more provisions as we heard from some of the forums of other places that had more gluten-free options. With Mike's celiac disease, we're planning to have a gluten-free boat, and like home on land, this will require more trips to several places to get enough supplies. We also took the dinghy to a local marine/boat supply store to get some straps for our life raft. On this outing, I fell off the dinghy trying to get on the dock! There was a local man on the dock selling fruit and he helped me up, and I got to go supply shopping soaking wet *facepalm*.
When we got back, we were able to get Captain Andy's berth (boat term for bedroom/cabin) in the guest hull ready. In preparing his head (boat term for bathroom), we discovered both guest toilets aren't working - this may be an easy fix, but not in enough time for our trip, so he'll be sharing our head.
When it comes to getting familiar with our boat, we realized this was going to be a somewhat lengthy process. The previous owners’ organization is far from how we would organize things, and we have to go through everything to get an inventory. Inventory on a boat includes spare parts, tools, linens, sails, flags, equipment, appliances, cleaning supplies, etc. We started this project by moving our extra sails from one of the guest heads to our outdoor forward locker. Our boat (and most boats) have two sails - our mainsail (on the center mast/beam) and our headsail (at the bow of the boat). We aren't sure why the previous owners stored their spare sails in the head, but we had to get them out. Next, we started going through most of the outdoor salon lockers and got them re-organized to our needs. We decided this was a good first step and know we'll be continuing this process when we're back from our week away.
