We started our morning with breakfast and our now standard boat prep. Over breakfast, we had a talk with Captain Andy about our float plan. A float plan is a safety measure for any cruiser. It gives someone ashore (e.g. family, friends) an overview of the intended sailing plan in the event of an emergency situation. Things to include in a float plan include-

  • Images of the vessel

  • Images of the owners/crew

  • Chart plot/navigation

  • Communication devices

  • Daily check-in plan

  • Diversion plan along route in the event of a problem (e.g. autopilot failure, engine failure, bad weather)

After checking the day's wind and weather forecast, we plotted a course from St. George’s mooring field to Ronde Island. When it comes to charting a course, we are going to be mainly utilizing the navigation app Navionics; it determines our automatic route, boat settings (e.g. mast height, boat length, knot speed), and estimated time of arrival.

We sailed a total of 32 nautical miles (NM), which took us 8 hours and 47 minutes, with an average speed of 3.6 knots.

At the end of the day, we went through the anchoring procedure (will share more details in a future post), then anchored along a bay on Ronde Island. Once settled in for the night, we had some dinner then stargazed on our bow trampolines!
