Yesterday, we arrived at the Ronde Island anchorage as sunset was happening, so we weren’t able to visualize the anchor under water. So, we started our morning with a snorkel so that we could follow the anchor chain and visualize the anchor embedded and secured in sand. This is part of our safety procedure to ensure our boat is secure and won’t drift or drag. Captain Andy also shared a cool app, Anchor Pro, which helps as an alert when you're setting your anchor in case you drift.
During our snorkeling outing, I learned an important pro tip – do not attempt to re-board the boat’s sugar scoops (stern outboards) with your snorkel fins still on, because you will slip and fall downward back into the water!
After our check, we had our usual breakfast and did our boat prep. We plotted a course from Ronde Island to Carriacou, which is another island that is still part of Grenada. We sailed around Diamond Island to Tyrrel Bay for a total of 14NM over 2 hours and 43 minutes, with an average speed of 5.1 knots. Today was Ollie's best day so far up with us at the helm - he was made for #boatlife!
We dropped our anchor in Tyrrel Bay and snorkeled to ensure anchor security, then took the dinghy ashore for dinner at Paradise Beach Club. We met the owner, Allison, and were joined by fellow cruiser friends of Captain Andy.
