We ordered our hardtop back in January from Dedicated Marine, a company located in Florida. Hardtops have the following advantages over softtops-

  • better functionality

  • longevity

  • overall coverage at the helm

  • option for additional solar panels

  • easier access to the boom and mainsail

The major part of the installation took 18 hours over two days in the marina following the advice of the builder, Chris, over the phone. I've oversimplified the steps below.

Day 1

Step 1 - assemble the temporary wood supports that the hardtop will rest on

Step 2 - dry fit the fiberglass supports and drill holes to feed solar panel and stereo wiring

Step 3 - secure/mount the fiberglass supports and seal with marine grade 5200 sealant

Day 2

Step 4 - secure the temporary wood supports to the boat

Step 5 - lift and dry fit the hardtop to the temporary stands (we got help from Bob and neighbors in the marina, Harry and Blane).

Step 6 - install the fiberglass caps that will connect the hardtop to the fiberglass supports

Step 7 - install the stainless steel legs then attach to the hardtop

Step 8 - secure the hardtop to the fiberglass support and remove the temporary supports

Once the hardtop was secured, we were ok to move back out of the marina and complete the rest of the installs on anchor, so we motored back to Druif Bay.
