Over the past couple of weeks, we were able to slowly work on the smaller installation components for the hardtop and solar.

  • wiring for solar panels

  • wiring for speakers

  • light installation

  • 2 additional 375-watt solar panel installation - bringing our total solar power to 2250 watts!

  • reinstalling helm back bar

  • installing hardtop handrails

ree
Ollie approve of the new hardtop!

In preparation for our passage back to Florida, we also wanted to get our Yanmar engines serviced and our rigging checked.

Just like for a car, engines need regular servicing, and we aren't really sure from the previous owners' maintenance records when the last service was done. Luckily there's a Yanmar service dealer on St. Thomas who was able to come out and do the following-

  • replaced fuel filters (internal)

  • replaced engine oil,

  • replaced sail drive oil

  • replaced oil filter

  • replaced racor filter (external fuel filter)

Our rigging refers to the system of ropes, cables and chains, which support a sailing vessel or masts—standing rigging, including shrouds and stays—and which adjust the position of the vessel's sails and spars to which they are attached—the running rigging, including halyards, braces, sheets and vangs. Captain Andy in Grenada made a comment that our standing rigging looked loose and that there was a lot of movement. Mike took a video and posted to a Lagoon 440 owners group to get some feedback, and others agreed it was far too loose.

We had a rigging company come out to the boat to tighten our standing rigging and also show us how to help maintain the standing rigging tightness for the future.

Lastly, we were finally able to place our Starlink order! Starlink provides high-speed, low-latency broadband internet across the globe and it has recently become available to those living on RVs and boats. With Starlink onboard, we'll be able to have reliable internet through the use of satellite positioning.
